Julian Germain

For my project I wanted to create a different area of interest that I have not experienced with or experimented with yet. I decided to look at a different style of artist to my previous. I have chosen to focus my studies on Julian Germain and his different topic area that interests me to include within my work based on 'Ancestral.' I have decided to concentrate on this artist’s images and difference between his work and my previous. I wanted to combine my work within his to see how I can develop my project and capture a whole story within one image. I chose Germain due to a high interest within his subject area and theme that is shown within all of his images. In comparison to my previous artists 'Josh Suda' and 'Brett Walker' Germain has a different style of photography all together that I believe works better and will link in with my theme at a stronger standard. I will look at using documentary photography within my future work, as I believe my first portraiture shoot wasn’t as successful as I was hoping. I don’t believe portraiture works as well within my theme of 'Ancestral' as I believed. Once gathering research on this artist I learnt that this photographer took an image of his Grandfather every day for 6 months. This was his aim of his topic and wanted to capture different images that can show the day-to-day life of elderly people. In my future work I would like to follow my Grandparents' footsteps and take images of different things they do everyday. I will look at this style of photography further and do some research on how effective it can be and what style and objects I will take images of. I will continue to take inspiration from other artists and people's work on 'Pinterest.'
