Statement of Intent

For my exam project I have decided to choose to look at the theme 'Ancestral.' I chose this subject area due to having a strong interest within my family background in my work. When I chosen this topic area, I was struggling to think how I could take my own primary images to show my style and development as I have progressed using the camera and different skills. When I begin my project I will look at experimenting different techniques using the camera and other ways I can portray my theme without just using portraiture. I enjoy taking portrait images and I have not yet experienced with other styles to a wide range. To start my project off I collected images of my family and my ancestors that I can use within my work and take inspiration from. I decided to look at different ways I can contribute these within my work and combine my images and previous ones. I decided to look at an artist called Josh Suda that has inspired me different ways of combining photographs together. I will look at this artist in depth and use Photoshop to create outcomes similar to Suda's but also create some practically. I will also experiment with two images I have collected and combining them. I will try using the same model but two different images of them; one older than the other to show development within age. I will also experiment layering two images together of my Mother and Grandma as this can show similarity within family. After researching this artist I will continue to look at another artist and take some primary images that can relate to my work and I can take inspiration from to use for my future primary images. My project will then develop as I take inspiration from artists and other people’s work to help me capture moments and different images within mine. Within my work I will experiment with different styles of photography, such as still life, documentary and landscape.

Within my future work I would like to look at a wide selection of artists that can help my project develop. I will look at artists who have different styles such as portraiture and documentary. Throughout my project I will look at;

For my final outcome I would like to create a piece that relates to my theme and shows my style within my work. For my final piece I wanted to present my work in slides and use old-fashioned equipment to display my images in. However once I did some research I was unable to purchase one of these slides. I then looked into creating a photo book for my final piece and editing it to link in with my theme and get it to relate to my project by creating and designing a book using colours and a theme that relates to my images and work I will present.
